Based in Cork, Geraldine O’Riordan is an artist interested in architectural scenes and interiors that have witnessed many changes through the decades in Ireland while having remained more or less in their original state. Her paintings, containing great light and stillness, provide glimpses of some of the finest Irish Georgian architecture, many at locations of historical significance.
.
Coming from an Anglo-Irish military background William Desmond Taylor, or William Deane-Tanner as he would have been known in his youth, grew up in Carlow town in a Georgian House not unlike the ones Geraldine O’Riordan paints. Although his house, originally entitled “Ellen Ville” and subsequently “Elms House’, no longer exists as it was demolished in the 1970′s to make way for a housing estate; houses of this kind, the very ones Taylor and his milieu spent their lives in, can be found throughout the county.
