The delightful story of Johanna Ransallar, charmingly played by Pickford, is that of a freckle-faced farm girl who’s pleas to the heavens to send her a beau results in the 143rd army regiment camping on her land. The immortal advice of being careful of what you wish for comes to the fore here when two of the soldiers end up fighting over the naive Johanna.
In her words ‘Oh Lordy, why when I prayed for a man did you send me a thousand?’
